What MCP is

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants and agents connect to outside tools without a custom integration written for each one. The agent speaks the protocol, a server offers a set of tools, and the two understand each other with no glue code in between. It is, in effect, a common plug that any tool and any agent can share.

This server

Ecom Image Optimizer is one of those tools. Point your AI client at the server and it gains the ability to resize, compress and convert product images on demand, running the same engine the drag-and-drop tool on this site uses. Your agent hands over an image URL and gets back an optimized file, a quality score and the byte sizes.

One product, two doors

A person uses the tool by dropping a photo into the browser. An AI uses it by speaking MCP. It is the same work underneath, reached two ways: a friendly interface for you, a precise contract for your agent. Neither is a bolt-on. The protocol connection was built in from the start.

Approved, never silent

A connection is never automatic. An AI client can register itself, but a person still has to sign in and approve the exact permissions on a consent screen before anything is granted. Each key sees only the tools its scopes allow, and any connection can be revoked from your account page at any time.

Tools

  • optimize_imageimages:write

    Resize, compress and convert one product image from a public https URL. Returns a short-lived download link, the byte sizes and a quality score.

  • list_presetspresets:read

    List the presets this key may use: the built-in marketplace presets and any this account has saved.

  • check_accountaccount:read

    Report what this key has left: free calls this month, credit balance, images optimized today and the current rate limit. Free to call.

Authentication

  • API key: send it as an Authorization: Bearer header. Create a key from your account page.
  • Device grant (RFC 8628): for an agent with no browser, a short code approved on the website.
  • OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration: the flow a hosted client like Smithery uses. A human still approves the scopes on a consent screen; registration hands out an identifier, never access.

Limits

500 free optimizations a month, 120 calls a minute per key, a 60-second download link, and a 3 MB ceiling on the source image.
