eBay Image Size Guide

eBay photo dimensions and rules, with a tool to produce them.

Last updated

eBay accepts fairly small images, but the minimum is not the target. Photos need at least 1600 px on the longest side for zoom to activate, and zoom is what lets buyers inspect condition, the single biggest question on most eBay listings.

eBay also rejects images with added borders, text or watermarks on the primary photo, so a clean, well-lit shot on a plain background is what you want to produce.

Typical result: A 5 MB phone photo typically exports to ~280 KB JPEG at 1600 px, roughly 94% smaller and fully zoom-enabled.

How to do it

  1. 1Open the bulk resizer and add your listing photos.
  2. 2Set the longest side to 1600 px so eBay enables zoom.
  3. 3Set the output format to JPEG and leave watermarking off.
  4. 4Download the resized photos and add them to your eBay listing.

Frequently asked questions

What size should eBay photos be?

At least 500 px on the longest side is the hard minimum, but aim for 1600 px so zoom is enabled. Zoom significantly helps buyers assess condition.

Why is zoom not working on my eBay listing?

Almost always because the photo is under 1600 px on its longest side. Re-upload a larger version and zoom activates.

Can I add borders or text to eBay photos?

Not on the primary photo. eBay prohibits added borders, text and watermarks there. Keep the main shot clean.

How many photos can I add to an eBay listing?

Up to 24 images free per listing at time of writing. Condition-focused detail shots reduce returns and questions.

What background works best for eBay photos?

A plain, evenly-lit background, white or light grey. It keeps attention on the item and looks consistent across your listings.
