Walmart Image Requirements

Hard specs, because Walmart suppresses listings that miss them.

Last updated

Walmart is one of the stricter marketplaces, and its image rules are enforced rather than suggested. The target is 2200 × 2200 px, with 1500 × 1500 px the minimum needed to enable zoom, and a square 1:1 ratio throughout.

The background requirement is specific: seamless pure white at RGB 255/255/255. Walmart also asks that the product not touch the frame edge, leaving roughly a 2.5% white border around it, a detail that trips up sellers who crop tightly for other channels.

Files are capped at 5 MB, and GIF is not accepted. Walmart recommends at least four images per listing; more angles consistently correlate with better listing quality scores.

Typical result: A 12 MB studio TIFF exports to roughly 600 KB at 2200 × 2200 px JPEG, inside the 5 MB cap with the resolution zoom needs.

How to do it

Frequently asked questions

What size images does Walmart Marketplace require?

2200 × 2200 px is the stated requirement, and 1500 × 1500 px is the minimum for zoom to work. Images must be square, and the file must stay under 5 MB.

Does Walmart require a white background?

Yes. The main image needs a seamless pure white background at RGB 255/255/255. Walmart also asks that the product not touch the edge of the frame, leaving about a 2.5% white border.

What image formats does Walmart accept?

JPEG, JPG, PNG and BMP. GIF is not permitted. JPEG is the practical choice for photography since it keeps files comfortably inside the 5 MB cap.

How many images should a Walmart listing have?

At least four is Walmart's recommendation. Listing quality scores reward richer image sets, and additional angles, scale references and in-use shots all help conversion.

Why was my Walmart listing image rejected?

The usual causes are an off-white or textured background, a non-square ratio, resolution below 1500 px, a file over 5 MB, or a GIF. Watermarks and promotional text are also grounds for rejection.
