Amazon Image Requirements

Amazon's listing image rules, and a tool that produces compliant files.

Last updated

Amazon enforces its image rules strictly, and getting them wrong can suppress a listing entirely. Main images need a pure white background, no watermarks, logos or added text, and at least 1000 px on the longest side so the zoom feature activates.

Zoom matters commercially, not just technically: listings where buyers can inspect the product close-up convert measurably better, which is why 1600 px or more is worth the extra file size.

Typical result: A 5 MB DSLR product shot typically exports to ~400 KB JPEG at 2000 × 2000, about 90% smaller while staying zoom-sharp.

How to do it

  1. 1Open the bulk resizer and add your product photos.
  2. 2Set 2000 × 2000 with pad mode and a pure white background colour.
  3. 3Set the output format to JPEG, and leave watermarking off for main images.
  4. 4Download and upload the compliant images to Seller Central.

Frequently asked questions

What are Amazon's main product image requirements?

A pure white background (RGB 255,255,255), no watermarks, logos or added text, the product filling about 85% of the frame, and at least 1000 px on the longest side so zoom works. 2000 × 2000 px JPEG is a reliable default.

Why does my Amazon image need to be 1000 pixels?

Amazon only enables hover-zoom when the longest side reaches 1000 px. Zoom-enabled listings convert better, so 1600–2000 px is worth targeting.

Can I put a watermark or logo on my Amazon images?

Not on the main image. Amazon prohibits watermarks, logos and added text there. Secondary and lifestyle images allow more freedom.

Should Amazon images be JPEG or PNG?

JPEG is preferred for photographic product shots. Export at the required dimensions and a sensible file weight rather than uploading raw camera files.

How many images should an Amazon listing have?

Use every slot available to you: main shot, angles, scale reference, detail crops and lifestyle context. Sparse listings underperform consistently.
